Culture, Charm, Adventure

Vietnam Introduction

Vietnam is a country that completely blew me away. From the buzzing streets of Hanoi to the lantern-lit charm of Hoi An (my favorite city), and the breathtaking mountains of Ha Giang, every part of Vietnam feels like a new adventure. Whether you’re trying street food that costs less than a dollar, cruising through emerald waters, or hiking into the clouds, this country has a way of pulling you in. Six weeks here showed me that Vietnam is more than just a destination, it’s an experience that stays with you!

KEY TIPS FOR YOUR TRIP

Here’s some essential info for visiting Vietnam:

Best Time to Visit: March to May and September to November (pleasant weather and fewer crowds).

Weather: Hot, humid summers (85–95°F / 29–35°C). Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An) can have rainy seasons from September–December. The south (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta) stays warm year-round.

Altitude: Most major destinations are at or near sea level, so altitude adjustment isn’t a concern.

Top Attraction: The lantern-filled streets of Hoi An — a UNESCO World Heritage town with history, charm, and great food.

Getting Around: Domestic flights are affordable for covering long distances. Trains and sleeper buses connect major cities. In towns and cities, Grab (ride-hailing app) is the easiest way to get around.

Local Cuisine: Don’t miss pho, banh mi, fresh spring rolls, and region-specific dishes like cao lầu in Hoi An and bánh xèo in the south.

Outdoor Activities: Explore the Fairy Stream and sand dunes in Mui Ne, wander along Da Nang’s Dragon Bridge, ride motorbikes along the Ha Giang Loop, and take a boat ride on the Mekong Delta.
