On the picturesque island of Mallorca, Spain, the Drach Caves, or Cuevas del Drach, stand as a mesmerizing testament to the wonders that lie beneath the surface. The Drach Geological Marvel: The Drach Caves, or Cuevas del Drach in Spanish, are a network of four interconnected caves: Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave), Cueva Luis Salvador, and Cueva de los Franceses (Cave of the French). Carved by the forces of nature over millions of years, these caves boast stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations that create a surreal underground landscape. The Subterranean Symphony: One of the highlights of the Drach Caves is the vast underground lake, Lake Martel, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world. What makes this experience truly unique is the enchanting classical music concert performed daily on small boats gliding across the serene waters. The ethereal combination of music echoing through the caverns and the play of light on the water creates a magical ambiance that leaves visitors awe-struck. During this experience, photography is prohibited. This rule allows the darkness and sounds to encompass you in a way that is less common in today’s society. Guided Tours and Exploration of the Drach Caves: Exploring the Drach Caves is an immersive experience facilitated by walking through the grounds or taking a guided tour. You can arrange for a knowledgeable guide to lead you through the intricate chambers, providing insights into the geology, history, and legends associated with the caves. The well-lit pathways ensure a safe and enjoyable journey, allowing visitors to marvel at the intricate formations that adorn the cave walls. Practical Information: Location: The Drach Caves are located near the town of Porto Cristo on the eastern coast of Mallorca. From Palma, there is a bus that takes you right to Porto Cristo. From there, you have about a 15 minute walk to the caves. If you have a rental car, there is a large parking lot right at the entrance. Tickets: Entry tickets can be purchased on-site or online in advance, with guided tours available. Online, prices are 16.50 Euros and they are 17.50 Euros if you buy entrance tickets at the counter. If you want a private guided tour or a guided tour, the price will be higher.  Timings: The caves are open to the public throughout the year, with regular guided tours conducted. From November 1 to March 10, the times are 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. From March 11 to October 31, the times are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Note that the caves are closed December 25 to January 1. The tours generally last about an hour. Tips for Visitors: Comfortable Attire: Wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for a cave environment. There are many stairs up and down so be prepared for that.  Photography: You can take photos and videos as you are walking through the cave and while on the lake, with no flash. During the musical performance, photography is not allowed. The workers will call you out and are genuinely really strict with it. Tripods, selfie sticks, and any professional photography equipment are not allowed. Boat Ride: Opt for a boat ride on Lake Martel to fully experience the cave. After the concert, people seemed really confused that there was a boat ride option. You can choose between a really short boat ride or walking over a long bridge, look like where people are loading the boat.  Tourists: The caves are likely going to be really busy. I expected my group is be small, but there was easily over 100 people. It felt like we were a herd of ants walking underground. The place is incredible and worth the visit, but beware that it will likely be crowded.  The Drach Caves are Waiting for You!
