Top Three Things To Do In Bilbao, Spain

Living in the vibrant neighborhood of Bilbao, Spain, has been an absolute delight, and I can’t help but fall in love with this magical city more each day. While there are numerous enchanting places to explore, here are my favorite top three things to do in Bilbao, Spain so far, each with its unique charm: 1. The Guggenheim Museum:  The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is an iconic landmark that has earned global acclaim not just for its impressive art collection but also for its extraordinary architectural design. Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, the building itself is a work of art. Its undulating titanium exterior catches the light in fascinating ways, creating an ever-changing visual spectacle. While I haven’t had the chance to explore its interior exhibits yet, the surrounding area is a joy to wander through. The museum’s outdoor installations, including Jeff Koons’ “Puppy,” a colossal floral sculpture of a dog, add whimsy to the landscape. The nearby Café Arvo is a perfect spot to relax and soak in the atmosphere. This area of Bilbao is always hopping with locals and tourists. 2. Casco Viejo (Old Town): Casco Viejo is Bilbao’s historic heart, and it’s brimming with character and history. One of my favorite experiences here is visiting the Sunday market. On Sundays, the cobbled streets come alive with a bustling market, offering a delightful mix of local produce, flowers, artisanal goods, and traditional Basque handicrafts. The aroma of freshly cooked pintxos wafts through the air, enticing visitors to savor the local cuisine at the various taverns and bars. Exploring Casco Viejo’s narrow streets reveals a treasure trove of architectural gems, including charming churches and centuries-old buildings adorned with intricate wrought-iron balconies. 3. Iturrizar Parkea: Iturrizar Parkea, nestled in the heart of Bilbao, is an oasis of tranquility and natural beauty. This sprawling urban park is a wonderful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Strolling through the park’s lush gardens, tranquil ponds, and shaded pathways is a true pleasure, especially during the early evening when the setting sun bathes everything in a warm, golden light. What makes this park truly enchanting is the spectacular light show put on by the foundation after sunset. As darkness falls, the park transforms into a magical wonderland, with colorful lights illuminating the trees and pathways. It’s a captivating spectacle that adds a touch of magic to the city’s nightlife. Living in Bilbao provides me with the perfect vantage point to explore these captivating locations. You can easily visit all these wonderful places in one day or you can space them out to immerse yourself in the locations. These top three things in Bilbao will make each day bring new discoveries. They have made my time in this city truly enchanting and unforgettable! Not all those who wander are lost. -TTT
